I spent a relaxing Sunday restocking my Black Drawing Salve.  Most often I use it on wounds that are open, red around the edges, or oozing/weeping.  Later after the pus is pulled up by the black salve, I use my Skin Soothing Balm which contains Comfrey, Yarrow and Calendula and helps close the wound quickly. I like to make my salves with fresh herbs that are in season, so they sometime vary a bit. This time I used a base of Extra Virgin Olive oil infused Rose geranium and Plantain (Plantago major) leaves. Rose geranium is antiseptic and toning. Plantain leaves are a favorite for external use being anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, astringent and anti-septic among other things. Rhassoul and Bentonite clay make up the bulk of the salve; the clays add drawing power to pull up pus from a wound. Activated charcoal is also included giving the salve it's black color. Activated charcoal is a universal antidote and is found in every emergency room. It is included in the salve to help detoxify wounds. A small amount of beeswax helps bind the mixture. What is the story behind me making this salve? The reason why I first made it was to try to help my daughter who had a large lump on her leg a year or so ago. The Chinese medicine treatment of most lumps and masses is the 5 tiger's catching sheep acupuncture technique (4 needles around the periphery of a lump and one straight in). I gave this technique a try with my daughter with not so many needles, and it promptly brought what was a large boil up to the surface of her leg. Then I made and applied the drawing salve to her leg and covered it with a bandage, and kept this up for the next few days. The salve drew up a large amount of pus to drain the boil, until finally there was a black dot underneath the skin. I used a sterile needle to break the thin skin above the black dot and this spine is what came shooting out. I applied the black salve once or twice more and there was not further problem. It took me another few days to figure out what this was but I eventually determined that it was a cactus thorn. Basically this is a very good salve to use for superficial boils, but whatever may be stuck in a wound to generate the boil needs to come out or pus will continue to be generated. When using a black salve it needs to be covered with a band aid or a gauze pad after applying it to the wound. My friend Sue has since gone on to use this salve to pull old pebbles out from her heal. I currently have this salve available in 1.5 oz in the new altglobe store.

 Wow, I can't believe that

Wow, I can't believe that thorn popped out of her leg! That is great that you were able to heal the wound and find the source naturally with your salve. I had a cactus thorn underneath my fingernail once and it was several weeks before I figured out what was causing the pain and swelling.

She and I were both shocked.

She and I were both shocked.  Glad that is over and done with.
