Natural Perfumes Now Available on Altglobe from Aquarian Bath
I am pleased to announce for the first time on my blog that I am now offering a line of Natural Perfumes at ... By natural perfumes I mean those that are made with plant based fragrance ingredients, which are pure essential oils. Essential oils have been used in perfumery for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians, East Indians and Hebrews used them. Perfumes were used in bathing, anointing, ritual and as incense. Plant essences were used primarily in perfumes up until the early 1900's, at which point synthetic perfumes began to be developed. These chemical fragrances were relatively cheap to create which lead to the decline of natural perfumery.
For me natural perfumery is an extension of aromatherapy, having collected and used pure essential oils in my soaps and balms for a number of years. For those of you who are not familiar with aromatherapy and essential oils, aromatherapy is a branch of herbal medicine which involves the therapeutic use of plant essences. Essential oils are most often concentrated from plants by distillation. These essential oils have specific effects on mood and the emotions when their scent is carried from the nose/olfactory system to limbic system also known as the 'emotional brain.' The therapeutic effects of dynamic natural plant essences simply cannot be duplicated by man-made and cheaply manufactured chemical fragrance oils.
Ylang Ylang, pronounced Ee-lang Ee-lang, is one such essential oil which is used in natural perfumery as well as aromatherapy. The ylang ylang plant is pictured at the beginning of this blog post. Ylang ylang is a heavenly floral, which also has properties of calming the nervous system, relieving insomnia and depression, and acting as an aphrodisiac. One of my new perfumes is a simple single note solid perfume of Organic Ylang Ylang Superior Extra essential oil in golden jojoba and beeswax.
One of the most famous perfumes from ancient times is Frankincense and Myrrh. Frankincense and Myrrh are aromatic resins from the barks of these trees which are native to Africa. The resins have been used as incense in meditation and prayer. In ancient times gathering of Frankincense was a hereditary privilege. Frankincense has the ability to calm and clear the mind.
Both Frankincense and Myrrh resins are also used therapeutically in Traditional Chinese Medicine for treatment of blood stagnation or sprains, strains, and bruises.
This natural Frankincense and Myrrh Perfume from my collection is quite versatile. It may be used as a perfume, a meditation aid or even in topical applications in the case of sprained or strained ankle or bruising.
