Time is the First Medicine

More important than whether you hydrate your body or not, is when you choose to do so. This message is my compressed learnings from 2.5 years as resident and year plus Abbot of the Medicine Buddha tea house and healing center in SF, online at www.MedicineBuddhas.org, from where I am Tea Master and Chinese Tendon Massage Coach.

MORNING WATER SADHNA
The one thing I'll encourage you to do, starting this night if you have a thermos, is to boil and 10-minute-cool enough water to fill past half the thermos. This is for morning hydration, best done after a silent meditation, which can be done (sitting up or lying down) starting the moment you awaken. If you keep a jug of water by your bedside, normal temperature water is fine; but hot water, especially with a 21-day morning-hydration commitment is divine. I encourage you (both) to prove it to yourself by starting with clear water, (as adding ginger or other natural herbs is best done after the body acclimates to trusted daily hydration according to its own rhythms.)

HOT WATER ACTS WITH TIME

The water should be just cool enough to be drinkable post-boiling, or if you do not have a thermos, then awaken-boil-meditate-hydrate the same way. The time is the most important element, and I'll be sharing a chart with you which shows the timings of each organ. The Liver is the key to internal healing and reconstruction, and it awakens at 3AM from its nightly slumber (1-3AM). From 3-5 AM is payload time when any and all water taken in goes straight through the liver, and bypasses the kidneys. This is crucial info if you ever happen to awaken (or even remain awake up until, to a lesser degree of effectiveness) during that time window. Past that time, in diminishing degrees, each subsequent 2-hour window the percentage going through the liver diminishes by 20-15-10%, so that by 3PM the water is going completely through your kidneys, and thus the adrenals, depleting your electrolytes. I learned at the Medicine Buddha that if I drank up to 4-liters in the 2-hours between 3-5 AM, I utilized far more of that water than I ever had, and my rate of urination cut down so significantly that I would have gotten worried if I hadn't simultaneously started defecating 4-6 times during the day. Over a committed 21-day program, it acts as an easy and natural colonic, done right (i.e., by the body itself,) and the benefits far outweigh anything I can say for them. You will know the difference within 7 days.

*phew* Now I can copy the above paragraphs and make a blog entry on my AltGlobe blog. Thanks for your attention my friends, the rest is just details and scheduling...  Pay heed to the image attached.  Examine liver time. The best time to feed any organ is right after it awakens. The liver requires eyes to be closed at night, so that sleep can be experienced by the body in regenerative mode. The Lungs can be healed using grief, or more specifically, tears, during its 3-5 AM window. Make prayer a part of your sadhna no matter what your spiritual path is, it can only help. The Stomach can be strengthened by getting a good breakfast - during its 7-9 AM window. In this way there is a preferred route, and even available options, for every organ or ailment, but it takes knowing a bit about the interrelationships of the organs and the times and the elements, and the seasons, and the effects, comprehensively.

Thank you for sharing Abbas!

Lungs can also be healed by just doing breathing exercises between 3 to 5 am. Breathing is also good for preparing the Large Intestine for doing its job between 5 to 7 am. By the Chines medicine, the lungs and the large intestine are a pair and complete each other.
Both of these organs control orifices in our body and amazingly enough, sometimes, when it is hard to defect, lifting your arms up high while taking breath and lowering them slowly while extracting the air, help enormously! Try it ;-)

That is correct.. 3-5 AM is the right time

For Liver Hydration, healing, and general well-being of all people who have too much fire, too much acidity, or general-lack-of-wellness issues, the best thing they can do is hydrate their bodies from 3-5 AM with HOT water, as hot as they can drink it.

working on the liver

I think it is best to drink from 3-5 AM for the liver, as 1-3 AM is when it is "at rest".  At least that is my understanding.

I just lost my comment before saving it!

Aaargh! I just lost a comment I had worked an hour to prepare!! No, not like this for other organs.  For instance, for healing the lungs, U can use breathing techniques at the time, but the easier way is to use the emotion for that time.  U wouldn't want to use Anger for the liver, which people anyway end up having create fire in them, because it is destructive.  For the Liver, U have the power of Grief (listed as "Tears" in another chart in the temple library,) which coincides with the time for Pre-Dawn meditations.  Tahajjud (in Islamic spirituality) and other sacred times co-incide with this window, known as "Spirit Time", or even the common vernacular "Godly Hour".  So crying in that time, (in lamentation maybe?-) is the best way to heal the liver..  Other queries would have to go to the monastery, as Master Wang is ever available to ask: LotsOfWater (at) gmail Now I do not have the energy to write again all that I had written that has already been lost.  What's more, I am not trusting this editor too much.  My machine mistakenly went "forward" because something got pressed..  I don't get it, but I do recognize that such is the power of the work before me, that I have to repeat the message. Maybe for my own sake?-)

please explain

Thanks Abbas this is brilliant but i dont quite understand. So to detox the liver then I should be drinking water betwen 1-3am for best effect (and likewise at the other times for different organs?). Great chart - would love to learn how to use it for health.
